Introduction to the NMD Award of Excellence 

The NMD Awardof Excellence is presented annually to a business or individual who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of nanotechnology in the United States. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of nanotechnology and is given to an individual or organization that has demonstrated a commitment to the responsible development and commercialization of nanotechnology. 

The NMD Award of Excellence was established in 2006 by the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), a federal government interagency effort that coordinates the research and development activities of over 25 agencies and organizations. The award is administered by the Nano-Link Center for Regional Economic Development, housed at Michigan State University. 

Since its inception, the NMD Award of Excellence has been presented to 21 individuals and organizations, including large companies, small businesses, universities, and government laboratories. This year's recipient is Dr. Jean Fréchet, Director of the Institute for Integrated Catalysis at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Dr. Fréchet was selected for his significant contributions to the field of nanocatalysis, including his work on developing catalysts for more efficient reactions and his pioneering work on using nanoparticles as supports for catalytic reactions. 

The NMD Award of Excellence is an important recognition of the achievements made by those working in the field of nanotechnology. It highlights the importance of responsible development and commercialization of this cutting-edge technology and serves as a reminder that we must continue to invest in research and development in order to maintain our position 

Eligibility Criteria for Nominees 

The National Museum of Dentistry (NMD) Award of Excellence is given to individuals who have shown significant contributions to the field of dentistry. There are three eligibility criteria that nominees must meet in order to be considered for the award: 

1. The nominee must be a current or retired dentist.

2. The nominee must have made significant contributions to the field of dentistry through their research, teaching, or clinical work.

3. The nominee must be nominated by two current NMD members.
