- In many parts of Africa, polygamy is still practiced. This means that a man can have more than one wife. 

- In parts of India, arranged marriages are still common. This means that families choose potential spouses for their children, instead of the children themselves choosing who to marry.

Each year, UNFPA selects a different theme related to families and family life. This year’s theme is “Families Matter: Building resilience for life”.
