World Diabetes Day: Fight For Your Life

The World Diabetes Day campaign, a global awareness event, is the leading campaign to fight diabetes all over the world. On November 14 people take action to make their voices heard at events, workshops, and in homes and workplaces.

What is Diabetes?

There are two main types of diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. In Type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin, which is needed to convert glucose (sugar) into energy. People with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin injections every day in order to survive. In Type 2 diabetes, the body either does not produce enough insulin or the cells do not respond properly to insulin. This can cause high blood sugar levels, which can lead to serious health problems if left untreated.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes, accounting for 90-95% of all cases worldwide. It usually develops in adults over the age of 40, but it is becoming more common in children and adolescents due to obesity.

There is no cure for either type of diabetes, but it can be controlled through proper diet, exercise, and medication. With proper treatment, people with diabetes can live long and healthy lives.

Symptoms of Diabetes

There are a number of different symptoms of diabetes, and it is important to be aware of them so that you can seek treatment early if necessary. The most common symptom of diabetes is increased thirst. This is usually accompanied by increased urination, as the body tries to get rid of the excess sugar in the blood. Other common symptoms include fatigue, weight loss, and blurred vision. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to see your doctor so that he or she can test for diabetes.

How to Fight Diabetes

Here are some tips for fighting diabetes:

1. Get active. Exercise is one of the best ways to lower your blood sugar levels. It also helps improve your insulin sensitivity, which is important for people with type 2 diabetes.

2. Eat healthy foods. A healthy diet can help you control your blood sugar levels and lose weight if needed. Focus on eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Avoid sugary drinks and processed foods as much as possible.

3. Quit smoking. Smoking increases your risk for complications from diabetes, such as heart disease, stroke, and nerve damage. If you smoke, quitting is one of the best things you can do for your health.

Conclusion
