The Sharad Purnima Festival is celebrated in the Autumn season, usually around October. The word "Sharad" means heat and hence, this festival is associated with the season of fall. In other words, this time of year marks the transition from summer to winter and it's a time when there will be less sunlight available. 

How to Celebrate Sharad Purnima 

The celebrations of Sharad Purnima begin a week before the actual festival. On this day, people clean their homes and decorate them with flowers and lights. Rangolis are drawn at the entrances of homes to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. People also shop for new clothes to wear at the festival. 

On the eve of Sharad Purnima, a special puja is performed for Goddess Lakshmi. Lamps are lit in front of her idol and prayers are offered to seek her blessings. Aarti is performed after the puja and people offer sweets to the goddess. 

Symbols and Customs of Sharad Purnima 

Sharad Purnima is one of the most popular festivals in India, celebrated by Hindus all over the country. The festival is observed on the full moon day in the month of Ashwin according to the Hindu lunar calendar. It marks the end of the monsoon season and the beginning of the harvest season. 

On this day, people worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. They also offer special prayers to Lord Krishna, who is believed to be an incarnation of Vishnu. People dress up in new clothes and offer fruits and sweets to the deity. They also exchange gifts with their loved ones and partake in feasts and celebrations. 

The festival holds great importance for farmers as it marks the beginning of the harvesting season. On this day, they pray for a good harvest and offer thanksgiving to God for His blessings. The festival is also a time for family reunion and bonding as people from all over come together to celebrate this joyous occasion.
